“You are a living example of something much bigger, involving distinctive styles of leadership both within the reserve and to the surrounding communities.”

Professor Richard Boyatzis, Phinda Game Reserve Guest

With the help of lodge guests and supporters around the world, Africa Foundation has achieved the following in our fourteen years of operation:

• Built a reputation internationally and nationally for facilitating effective and sustainable community development initiatives.

• Raised and committed approximately USD 5.5 million to consultative community development projects in six African countries

• Gained world-class community development skills, an extensive knowledge base and expertise in our focus areas

• Built more than 100 classrooms and facilitated the establishment of 18 pre-schools, thereby strengthening school infrastructure and governance

• Trained 250 teachers and over 6,000 pupils in environmental awareness through Conservation Lessons

• Awarded university level scholarships to 175 aspiring community leaders

• Built and supported three clinics in remote rural areas – one of which, the Mduku Clinic outside CC Africa’s Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, is open 24 hours a day and serves over 11,000 people in the region. The Ololosokwan Clinic close to Klein’s Camp in Tanzania serves between 350 and 700 people a week with just one doctor in attendance.

• Implemented water relief programmes such as boreholes, guttering and rainwater tanks at schools

• Supplied over 3,500 Hippo Water Rollers

• Led HIV/AIDS initiatives which have helped transform people’s lives;

• Established a flagship DevCentre project to “bridge the digital divide” and provide access to technology

“None of the above could have been accomplished without the direction and support of the Africa Foundation. Their concern and care for the communities they serve is obvious as is the quality of all those associated with the Foundation. They become personally involved in the projects and the communities themselves. Because of the Africa Foundation, we are personally committed to participating and involving others in self-sustained programmes for the communities for as long as we are financially and physically able.”

Raymond and Christine Menard, Guests - Bongani Mountain Lodge

Despite all that has been achieved in the last twelve years, our job has only just begun. We need your help in order to succeed in making a real difference to the lives of people in rural Africa while simultaneously supporting land restoration and wildlife conservation.
