Africa Foundation is registered
in South Africa as a non-profit organisation and has Public Benefit
Organisation (PBO) status. Our mission is to facilitate the empowerment
and development of people living in or adjacent to protected areas
in Africa, by forging unique partnerships between conservation initiatives
and communities. We work in specific rural communities surrounding
Conservation Corporation Africa's (CC Africa) conservation areas.

Education
enables people to break out of the poverty trap and enhance
the quality of life for themselves and their community. We build
preschools and classrooms, develop bursary programmes, teach
environmental awareness and build capacity in our communities,
conduct vocational training and facilitate adult education programmes.

|
|
 |
Health Care is a key to progress - to ensuring human dignity and security. We build and equip clinics and support their operation, run HIV/AIDS awareness programmes, provide health care information and counselling, and help provide clean water.

The
scourge of unemployment in rural communities can be tackled
by identifying and empowering entrepreneurs, whose small, emerging
enterprises can be an effective means of job creation. We identify
opportunities and help start-ups, but in particular, we stimulate
the potential for income generation through a highly successful
skills training programme, and through access to technology.

CBS Cares
HIV/AIDS has left a devastating wake of heartbreak and vulnerability of both children and communities across Africa. This is no different within the communities with which Africa Foundation work.
Africa Foundation has a rigorous consultative approach to understanding and supporting community responses to their challenges. Instead of attempting to address these issues ourselves, we listen to the community and support them in obtaining the necessary means to deal with these problems themselves.
It is through this approach, characterised by respect and holistic programmatic support, that Africa Foundation is successful in empowering the communities surrounding CC Africa’s reserves to work towards sustainable solutions to meet their challenges.
Three programmes offer opportunity for sharing in Africa Foundation’s work:
1. Child Nutrition
2. Orphaned and Vulnerable Children
3. Pre-School Care
Child Nutrition 
By providing a means through which these children can gain access to healthy food, they may be afforded the right to grow and develop. Africa Foundation is therefore establishing Permaculture Gardens in the schools which these children attend.
This one-year intensive project includes training, equipment, seedlings (fruit trees, vegetables, herbs) and fencing and costs approximately USD30,000.
To complement the Permaculture Gardens, Africa Foundation is also building Kitchens at the primary schools to provide the children with a healthy meal every day. Each kitchen costs approximately USD12,000.
Orphaned and Vulnerable Children 
Africa Foundation and NOAH (Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity) have collaborated to set up an “Ark” at Nkomo Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal to provide support and care for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
The Ark provides a safe venue for these children to receive a nutritious daily meal, have access to counselling and after-school care where they can learn and play.
The Ark has a volunteer staff of 13 community members and 2 full-time paid staff. 270 children are currently supported through this programme.
A total of USD60,000 is required to run the Ark on an annual basis.
Pre-School Care 
Many orphaned children and toddlers are taken into the homes of fellow community members but their care during the day remains a significant challenge. Africa Foundation facilitates the construction of pre-schools to provide a safe environment for young children. Recognising the importance of Early Childhood Development, trained teachers at these pre-schools are able to nurture and develop these young minds. The children are fed a healthy meal and returned to a safe home at the end of the day. To construct and equip a pre-school costs approximately USD30,000.
