Why we are effective

Africa Foundation makes a real difference in the communities we support because all the programmes we help fund are based on two simple principles - they are grounded in community participation and driven by local champions.

Communities can only be helped if they are consulted and involved - and allowed and empowered to help themselves. Projects only work if they are initiated and led by experienced people and if there is effective support on the ground from the organisations that manage them and from eco-tourism lodge managers and staff.

However innovative, projects are only sustainable if the community takes ownership of them - and this is what attracts and secures for us the support of our many loyal donors.
